Recycled Poem

This poem was crafted by Menlo Park Library staff member Priscilla S. Chan during the “Dear Earth, Dear Billie Eilish” youth ecopoetry workshop facilitated by San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto. Part cento, part sensory poem, the exercise incorporates lines from a climate change song and lines describing the poet’s immediate surroundings using the five senses.

DEAR DONALD GLOVER,

I'm hopin that this world will change
I hear silence
You can feel it in the streets
I see lights
Birds were made for singing
I feel plastic
Slow Down
I taste coffee
It feels like summer
I smell dust

With lines from “Feels Like Summer” by Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover
